Front fork

1 / cleaning inner tubes

A serious point in the front suspension is the sealant of the inner tube due to direct exposure to dust and mud.

Sealing is achieved through the oil seal which is protected from the dust shield.

How it works. The oil seal keeps the lubricant inside the tube due to the angle of the rim but cannot resist to the dust which is trying to go inside the tube.

Unlike the dust shield holds outside the dust because of its rim angle but cannot resist to the oil which is trying to get out of the tube.

In each compression of the fork the dust shield which is positioned in front of the seal cleans everything stuck to the tube.

So don’t leaves dust or mud to reach the rim of the oil seal and destroy it.

There are some cases where the dust shield fails to clear completely the tube like off-road use (with dust, mud and sand) especially in upside down forks.

If we want to extend the life of the oil seal then you need after each «ride dirty» to clean with soft cloth and water the tubes.

Also you must remove from its position the dust shield and clean inside all the area up to the seal.

2 / Correct assembly of the wheel

A frequent problem with disastrous results is misplaced and tightening the wheel on the fork especially to the upside down systems.

In particular in some cases there is possibility to make wrong during the wheel shaft tighten to the fork procedure allowing the tube to work at a different angle with the outer fork pipes resulting the bushing wear and tight feeling of the fork.

It is therefore the owner of each bike to follow exactly the manufacturer's instructions for the wheel assembly process.

3 / long period of stationary

One possibility also destruction of the seal is to use the bike after a long period of stationary without cleaning the surface of the inner tubes.

This happens because during the stationary period some dirt’s stick to the tube and fixed with time.

In the first compression the seal will encounter rough surface which may damage directly.

Rear suspension system

1 / Linkage system – Swing arm.

The biggest problem that can make a technician give wrong diagnosis is the back suspension system. Usually when someone is aware of a malfunction in the rear suspension system the first thing we think is that the shock absorber has a problem. That diagnosis grows more when the shock removed from the bike and found that the swing arm and the linkage system operated normally. The problem is that in some cases there may be damage the bearings which appear only when the system is charged by the weight of the bike, or disassembled. So if not understand the cause of the problem the shock absorber is maintained but the problem continues and increased. As a result the repaired shock will work not for long time and will face asymmetric wear on the shaft and the bushing which is not due to a repair failure. The solution is to follow the maintenance schedule of the manufacturer for this system in order to avoid this type of seizure. If the period has already exceed without any maintenance, before you draw any conclusions about the cause of the problem first have to make a complete control of the system.
